Once it has finished, the device will reboot. Wait a few seconds while the device loads und finishes upgrading. Go to settings and, as you can see, you have new settings now. Go to “Android version” and tap it a couple of times until the screen changes which marks that the process is finished.

Sony Xperia Z carries Android 4.1.2 that is upgradeable to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in a hassle free manner. The process of upgrading the smartphone has been detailed by XDA developers and all the professionals are of the view that updating this handset is a child’s job.

Xperia Z is a flagship phone of Sony but users are not satisfied with the Android version it carries. The phone packs 4.1.2 Jelly Bean that isn’t acceptable to smartphone users, who were expecting a better treatment by the manufacturer. Luckily, the Xperia Z Android is expandable to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and what is more exciting is that a user could conveniently update his smartphone with the advance version of the Android software.

Let’s see how users are experimenting with their pricey gadgets and making it more user-friendly.

First arrange the equipments or devices needed for starting the process and taking it to its logical conclusion that is successfully upgrading the Android OS of an expensive Sony Xperia Z.

You need a fully functional computer for this upgrade. Install driver for the smartphone in the computer and allow the USB to connect with PC by enabling the Debugging Mode of the driver. You would use Android SDK for the process.

Here, it is necessary to mention that you should first take the backup of the data in the phone and also unlock the bootloader of the gadget. Do this operation before connecting the USB driver with PC. Also make sure that the battery of the phone is full or at least 80% charged. If it isn’t, go and charge the battery first.

There are some precautions to be taken like the phone should have custom recovery like ClockworkMod or TWRP. Before moving ahead take another precaution that is creating Nandroid backup with current ROM. The backup would help, in case the experiment fails.

Now start updating your Xperia Z with Jelly Bean. Download the advance OS on PC and copy the ROM zip files on the phone from PC as you have already connected the phone with PC. Again download Fastboot Package on the PC and unzip the file. Get the boot.img file by unzipping the Jelly Bean ROM zip folder in the phone. Copy the boot.img file to the fastboot folder in the PC and turn the handset off.

Boot the phone with fastboot mode. You would need using both the volume down and power button together to booth the phone. Connect the phone to PC for further operation. In PC, click on your PC’s start menu and reach to Accessories. Enter ‘cd c:Fastboot’ to access the fastboot folder. Afterwards install boot.img file on the phone with the help of command ‘fastboot flash boot boot.img’. The installation process is completed but you need to keep the phone in recovery mode and perform data wiping by giving necessary commands. Choose factory rest and confirm it to clean the data.

Finally, install zip from sdcard and navigate to ROM zip. Confirm the installation and reboot the handset. After rebooting is complete, you would find that the Sony Xperia Z has been upgraded to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. For verifying that the handset has been successfully upgraded, go to About Phone for verification. This is how to upgrade the Android version in Sony Xperia Z. The process is simple but it needs attention.

Today’s post will be about rooting the Droid Razr & Razr Maxx on the Jelly Bean OTA 4.1.2 update. Before staring, please check if everything is correct. Take your phone, tap Phone settings > About phone and check what your Android version is. As the name of the tutorial says, your Android version should be Jelly Bean OTA 4.1.2. Other than that, tap Developer options and make sure that USB Debugging is checked and turned on. Having done these prerequisites, make sure that your battery life is above 60% and you are good to go and begin the process of rooting your device.

The first thing you should do is download the RAZR Blade root utility file. It can be downloaded from the following link:

Download RAZR Blade root utility file

motorola droid razr photo: motorola-droid-razr-XT910-android motorola-droid-razr-XT910-android.jpg

Click on the RAZR Blade folder and locate the Run file, the Windows launch file needed for this process. Having clicked on the Run file, a screen will emerge reminding you to ensure that USB debugging is enabled, that you have the latest Motorola drivers installed and that your phone is connected via USB. At this point you can connect the phone. As the phone is now plugged in, you will get a direction saying you should make sure that your phone is not in mass storage mode. The mode you should click on and enable is „Media device“.

Now you can put the phone down and go back to the RAZR Blade program on your computer. As the message says, press any key to continue. This will enable the program to find the device and reboot it. Rebooting could take a couple of minutes, so please be patient. When the device is rebooted, phase two is going to start.

Phase two means completing the following steps on your device:

  1. Open the Smart actions application
  2. Select „Get Started“, read the message and tap on next
  3. Select „Battery Saver“
  4. Select „Save“ in the upper right part of the screen
  5. After it has been saved, click the Home button

Once you have completed the above mentioned steps, you can return to the program on your computer and press enter to continue. This is going to reboot your device once again. Wait a few seconds until you see the booting animation on your phone again. This will start phase three which will take about a minute to reboot the device one more time. Just be patient and let the program do its thing. Another boot animation will appear on your phone, marking that rebooting is complete. This initiates phase four of the process – pushing a bunch of files on the phone and cleaning up. Simply let it finish and reboot for a final time.

The program will inform you of successfully completing the Exploit. Press any key to exit the program. Open your phone, disconnect it from your computer and, if you like, you can verify the root. You can do that with the Root Checker (if you do not have it installed on your phone, you can easily download it from the Store) and clicking on „Verify root“, which should show you a message saying „Congratulations, you have Root access“.

Download Root Checker

You will be able to see the „SuperSU“ application in your applications drawer. Tap on it, and then tap on Continue to update. Well done, your Jelly Bean OTA 4.1.2 update is now rooted.

Apple has just released their latest operating system, iOS 7 and Google’s Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 has also been released recently. With these two awesome operating systems available for their respective smartphones and tablets, people can’t help but compare to find out which one is better.

ios7-vs-jelly-bean-4-2-2 photo ios7-vs-jelly-bean-4-2-2.jpg

Here’s the lowdown on the 3 aspects of comparison of iOS 7 vs. Jellybean 4.2.2:

1. User Interface

The operating system’s interface is probably the attribute that gets people to touch and interact with a gadget and begin talking about it. It is what gives people that oh so important “first impression”, so to speak.

With the iOS 7, Apple gadgets now have a sleeker and cleaner look. Some changes include icons that are flatter than before, new font, a more saturated color palette and wallpapers that are more translucent. The iOS 7’s overall look still remains familiar but the modifications done to the user interface is refreshing and more modern.

The interface of Android has been known to be more customizable. For the Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2, there is still the popular multiple home screens for shortcuts and widgets. The slight difference in this Android update is the darker interface with predominantly black backgrounds that give it the modern appeal.

2. Features

Both Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and iOS have exciting updates to their existing operating system features.

A. Multitasking

The iOS 7 offers a carousel that enables the user to see what apps are open and to switch between then. The iOS 7 has an intelligent multitasking feature. It refreshes the favourite apps during the time of day when they are used the most.

The Jelly Bean 4.2.2 multitasking but ton lets the user preview all recently opened apps. A click on the app preview opens the app and sliding will get rid of the preview.

B. Home Screen, Lock and Notifications

iOS 7 has a brand new lock screen with a live wallpaper, which some say is similar to the Phase Beam of Android. Notifications can now be accessed straight from the lock screen. The notification panel now has tabs labelled “today”, “missed” and “all”. Adding a new color scheme and pages to folders are the additions to the home screen for the latest iOS update.

The Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 lock screen has widgets that let users see what is going on with the phone without unlocking it. The customizable home screen gives users easy access to clock, mail and messaging to name a few. The Jelly Bean 4.2.2 notification panel is the same as the 4.2 version, which enables users to expand and perform actions straight from the notification panel.

C. Multi-user Support

This feature is only available for Android tablets using the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 and 4.2.2 and it allows the separation and sharing between users. This feature is especially useful for families with children who like using apps for school or play.

3. Apps

iOS 7 is now loaded with redesigned apps such as iTunes Radio, Control Center, Siri and AirDrop. Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 has Google Now, a new Android Gesture keyboard, Photo Sphere, Full HDMI mirroring and updates in Google Play Music and Movies.

Both Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and iOS 7 are very proficient and exciting operating systems. The research and development teams of both Google and Apple seem to be on their toes in playing catch-up with technological advances. The most interesting thing about the new offerings is that the two choices for operating system have characteristics that are closely similar to one another, it is entirely up to the consumers to get a feel and choose which one suits their lifestyle the most.

Download and Install Android 4.3 on your Galaxy S4 GT-I9505

As many of you may know by now, a leaked Android 4.3 Jelly Bean ROM emerged a couple of days ago as a pre-release build for the ‘Google Play edition’ Galaxy S4 (it is also ported to the European LTE Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 in the form of a custom ROM by SamMobile, the source of the leak).

As the guys from SamMobile claim, Android 4.3 port from the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 is fully functional on the standard Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505), there is not even a single thing which isn’t working. It only works on the standard GT-I9505 (with Snapdragon CPU) and Google Edition Samsung Galaxy S4. Keep in mind, this is not the U.S. models; only the European LTE Galaxy S4 I9505 model works so far.

galaxy s4 photo: Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini_3 samsung_galaxy_s4_mini_zps23aa3457.jpg

The system details of the new Android 4.3 can be found just below:

  • Android version: 4.3
  • Build ID: JWR66N
  • PDA: I9505GUEUBMFP
  • CSC: I9505GXARBMFP
  • Build Date: 26 June 2013
  • Changelist: 968842

The new pre-release of the Android 4.3 looks a lot like the current version of Android. This means that the changes made on this version are mostly under-the-hood. Web ring you a short overview of the changes we noticed:

  • Bluetooth Low Energy support is on-board in Android 4.3 (as well as Bluetooth tethering)
  • Google’s location service now scans for Wi-Fi networks even when Wi-Fi is turned off and not being used for wireless networking – part of Google’s battery friendly location services
  • New debug options for the new non-rectangular clipping feature
  • A button that lets you Revoke USB debugging authorization – it deletes the RSA key generated for USB debugging authorization from the phone (before you had to do it from your computer)
  • The Subject field is automatically inserted with the date and time of the shot when you take a screenshot and e-mail it
  • Reshuffled camera interface
  • Enable dial-pad auto complete and change DTMF tone lengths

As always, when we bring you news about pre-release builds, we should warn you about the following: this will void your warranty, you are doing this at your own risk and, unless you are experienced in flashing custom ROMs, do not attempt this by yourself before learning and obtaining some flashing skills. The ROM cannot be installed via Odin, and users will have to load it on their devices manually. Users will also need a custom recovery to have been installed on their devices for this to work.

However, if you want to proceed and try out the new Android 4.3, then these are the steps you should follow:

  • Ensure you have any important files backed up for safekeeping because this process will wipe all of your data
  • Download the Google Play Edition ROM of Android 4.3 and copy it to your device’s internal SD Card: Download
  • Put your device in Recovery mode (hold the Power, Volume Up and Home buttons all together)
  • Perform a Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  • Flash The Google Play Edition ROM
  • Reboot your phone

Google hasn’t made Android 4.3 public yet, so it’s still considered an unannounced build. Keep in mind that Android 4.3 is still in development phases and does not have all the features which are yet to be implemented, so do not be disappointed if this pre-release does not have everything you had expected, there is still room and time for improvement.

Android 4.3 build leaks for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 GT-I9505G

In a couple of days, on July 24th more exactly, Google will hold an Android event and release some new exciting stuff – the launch of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. As we wait for the event, a new Android 4.3 test build has been leaked for the Google Play Editon Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G).

This new test build was firstly leaked on XDA forums as an Odin package for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G). Since then it’s been repackaged into a flashable ROM for the European variant (GT-i9505) and certain U.S. and Canadian GSM GS4s – meaning that many users with TouchWiz Galaxy S4s can now try out Android 4.3 on their devices.

The first ever Android 4.3 test build leaked for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 carried JWR66N. This build carriers a more recent number — JWR66V versus JWR66N — and it seems slightly speedier than the earlier Google Play edition leak. Also, the battery drain issue noticed by some in that build, on account of the “Android System” process keeping the device awake, seems to be fixed. Except for that, the new build doesn’t bring anything new instead of a few fixes – previous leak stopped the CPU from going into an idle state which caused a huge battery drain, this has been fixed in this new build. The new firmware is much smoother than the previous leak. It is a faster, more stable version of the GPe GS4 firmware that leaked out a couple of weeks back

The details of the new Android 4.3 test build (JWR66V) for the Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505G) are listed below:
 photo galaxy-s4-google-play-edition.jpg

  • Model: GT-I9505G
  • Country: United States of America
  • Version: Android 4.3
  • Changelist: 1081152
  • Build date: Thu, 11 Jul 2013 19:23:28 +0000
  • Product Code: XAR
  • PDA: I9505GUEUBMG8
  • CSC: I9505GXARBMG8
  • MODEM: I9505GUEUBMG8

Since there is already a flashable zip for some TouchWiz GS4s and if you want to run this on your own device, click on our download link at the bottom of this text. As always, we advise you to proceed with caution and at your own risk when flashing leaked, unofficial firmware to your phone.

How to use Android 4.3′s ‘Restricted Profile’ feature

Restricted Profile

The ability to add a second user profile was added to tablets in Android 4.2, and it's gained even more granular functionality in Android 4.3 with the addition of "restricted profiles." In a nutshell, this lets you choose which applications that restricted user can use.

It's not quite a full-functioned kids mode, and there still are a couple things to watch out for. But for basic account compartmentalization, it works pretty well.

Google’s mobile operating system Android is already a hugely popular choice among users and Smartphone manufacturers. Over the years, Google has developed and refined the Android system, smoothing over defects, adding new features and making the framework more stable and secure. The results can be seen clearly – Android based devices have turned into segment leaders when it comes to market share and growth rate.

The resulting frenzy amongst Android Smartphone users has also transcended to additional business opportunities for developers engaged in Android app development, as corroborated by the huge number of application in the Google Android app store.

 photo jelly-bean-4-3.jpg

Amidst all this excitement, Google recently made the official announcement about the latest update to their current version of Android, Android 4.2 codenamed Jellybean. The new version, Android 4.3, already has users and app developers immensely interested, with an interesting set of features and improvements promised by Google in the new version.

Android Updates and Their Significance

Google has been extremely active when it comes to updating their mobile OS. The original beta was released back in 2007, and in the span of six years we have seen frequent updates. Each of these updates brought something useful and meaningful to the system, and the last version of Android, Jellybean 4.2 has proven to be the most popularly used version till date. With the latest update, it can be said with certainty that Google will strive to make the system even better. Let’s have a look at the various sets of features promised with this new version –

    1. Text auto-completion – One new look that is sure to catch Android smartphone user’s fancy is the autocomplete facility that will is present on the dial pad. This helps users to just type the first few letters or numbers and Android will automatically bring up suggestions from the contact book. This feature was sorely missing in stock Android phones that doesn’t have mobile manufacturer’s added feature sets
    2. OpenGL ES 3.0 – Another great feature is that Android mobile application development professionals who specialize in designing and developing games would greatly appreciate is support for the OpenGL framework.  OpenGL is a graphics development platform which allows for high quality graphics in games and applications and includes support for native HD rendering at 1080 p. This means an overall improvement in visuals, and pronounced improvement of visuals in games. The notification panel is also set to get an improvement wherein users can access notifications from other devices with the help of applications or Bluetooth connections.

  1. Low-power Bluetooth and DRM – Bluetooth is an extremely popular mobile communication technology that makes it easy to communicate, send and receive data between different devices. Bluetooth has been around for a while, and has also been upgraded a few times to optimize data transfer and enhance speed. Android 4.3 is set to feature Smart Bluetooth, which is a low energy requirement Bluetooth technology that facilitates Bluetooth communication without consuming much battery power.

This should pave the way for more battery efficient Bluetooth transfers and complication. It also means that android app development professionals can now assimilate this technology while designing applications. The new version of Android is also set to include support for digital rights management or DRM support. This is a great way for distributors and vendors to supply copyrighted content like audio and video to Android devices without risking the chance of it being copied or pirated. This opens the doors for many more providers to make their copyrighted content available on the Google Android platform.

  1. Multiple user accounts and other features – one of the most important features that Google plans to implement in the latest iteration of its Android mobile operating system is the multiple user accounts feature. Google has announced the implementation of multiple user accounts with the option of restricting the access and usage capabilities of different profiles. This means that one device can now be effectively used by more than one person with each user having their own unique settings and preferences saved to their own profile.

The restriction on profiles feature can be used for small scale individual purposes like parental control, and can also have much larger complex implications like profiles according to role in an enterprise environment. With these new features, it can be said with certainty that Android 4.3 will be a marked improvement on the already popular Jellybean.
